Prabhdeep is painted as a monstrous figure, but as the story delves into flashbacks, Ankur is revealed as a sexist, conventional man with little regard for his wife’s career or aspirations. Like a petulant child, he storms into her workplace, unceremoniously quits the job on her behalf, and then refuses to communicate—yet somehow, he continues to behave as if he were the one wronged. This disconnect makes it difficult for the audience to empathize with him or believe in Antara’s reluctance, driven by her fear that she could never compete with the lingering presence of his ex-wife in his mind.

Arjun Kapoor pulls off a fine act, balancing comic and emotional moments easily. Bhumi Punekar is convincing as a typical Punjabi kudo, but her character feels underdeveloped, with her personality depicted in fragments. The narrative also neglects to explore her life post-divorce, leaving gaps in her arc. Raku Preet Singh is decent as the strong, yet understanding, London girl who doesn’t hesitate to play dirty when needed.

The most entertaining moments, however, come from stand-up comedian Harsh Gujral. His effortless delivery and impeccable comic timing elevate the humour, especially in scenes where he roasts Arjun Kapoor, making for some of the film’s most enjoyable moments. Dino Morea makes a charming special appearance as Antara’s suave brother.

Director: Jon Watts
Stars: Tom Holland, Zendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch

Spider-Man: No Way Home Story: After the world discovers that Peter Parker (Tom Holland) is Spider-Man, he approaches Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to fix the problem. Spider-Man: No Way Home Review: Swinging right back to the moment that changed Peter Parker’s (Tom Holland) life in ‘Far From Home’ (2019), ‘No Way Home’ shows us why Peter’s secret is crucial Not just to him but also to his friends and loved ones. Peter approaches Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to change things back to the way they were before. But as the sorcerer uses his powers to make the world forget Spider-Man’s identity, Peter gets a lot more than he bargained for.

That’s where credit goes to the ensemble cast, both familiar and new to this universe. Alfred Molina and Willem Dafoe return to reinforce why Otto Octavius and Norman Osborn are considered amongst the most heartfelt yet menacing antagonists, not just in Spider-Man films but across the superhero genre. The bold and ambitious screenplay also redeems Jamie Foxx’s Max Dillon/ Electro. But Tom Holland’s Peter Parker faces his biggest and darkest challenges in this film, and the actor fully embraces it. Holland simultaneously elevates the rest of the cast while managing to stand out on his own.

Director: Christopher NolanStars: Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon

“Oppenheimer,” Christopher Nolan’s staggering film about J. Robert Oppenheimer, the man known as “the father of the atomic bomb,” condenses a titanic shift in consciousness into three haunted hours. A drama about genius, hubris, and error, both individual and collective, it brilliantly charts the turbulent life of the American theoretical physicist who helped research and develop the two atomic bombs that were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II — cataclysms that helped usher in our human-dominated age. The movie is based on “American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer,” the authoritative 2005 biography by Kai Bird and Martin J.Sherwin. Written and directed by Nolan, the film borrows liberally from the book as it surveys Oppenheimer’s life, including his role in the Manhattan Engineer District, better known as the Manhattan Project. He served as director of a clandestine weapons lab built in a near-desolate stretch of Los Alamos, in New Mexico, where he and many other of the era’s most dazzling scientific minds puzzled through how to harness nuclear reactions for the weapons that killed tens of thousands instantly, ending the war in the Pacific.

The atomic bomb and what it wrought define Oppenheimer’s legacy and also shape this film. Nolan goes deep and long on the building of the bomb, a fascinating and appalling process, but he doesn’t restage the attacks; there are no documentary images of the dead or panoramas of cities in ashes, decisions that read as his ethical absolutes. The horror of the bombings, the magnitude of the suffering they caused, and the arms race that followed suffuse the film. “Oppenheimer” is a great achievement in formal and conceptual terms, and fully absorbing, but Nolan’s filmmaking is, crucially, in service to the history that it relates. The story tracks Oppenheimer — played with feverish intensity by Cillian Murphy — across decades, starting in the 1920s with him as a young adult and continuing until his hair grays.

The film touches on personal and professional milestones, including his work on the bomb, the controversies that dogged him, the anti-Communist attacks that nearly ruined him, as well as the friendships and romances that helped sustain yet also troubled him. He has an affair with a political firebrand named Jean Tatlock (a vibrant Florence Pugh), and later weds a seductive boozer, Kitty Harrison (Emily Blunt, in a slow-building turn), who accompanies him to Los Alamos, where she gives birth to their second child. It’s a dense, event-filled story that Nolan — who’s long embraced the plasticity of the film medium — has given a complex structure, which he parcels into revealing sections. Most are in lush color; others in high-contrast black and white. These sections are arranged in strands that wind together for a shape that brings to mind the double helix of DNA. To signal his conceit, he stamps the film with the words “fission” (a splitting into parts) and “fusion” (a merging of elements); Nolan being Nolan, he further complicates the film by recurrently kinking up the overarching chronology — it is a lot.

It also isn’t a story that builds gradually; rather, Nolan abruptly tosses you into the whirl of Oppenheimer’s life with vivid scenes of him during different periods. In rapid succession, the watchful older Opie (as his intimates call him) and his younger counterpart flicker onscreen before the story briefly lands in the 1920s, where he’s an anguished student tormented by fiery, apocalyptic visions. He suffers; he also reads T.S. Eliot’s “The Waste Land,” QN0zesxVQ2lcDllfdrops a needle on Stravinsky’s “The Rite of Spring” and stands before a Picasso painting, defining works of an age in which physics folded space and time into space-time.

This fast pace and narrative fragmentation continue as Nolan fills in this Cubistic portrait, crosses and recrosses continents, and ushers in armies of characters, including Niels Bohr (Kenneth Branagh), a physicist who played a role in the Manhattan Project. Nolan has loaded the movie with familiar faces — Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Gary Oldman — some distracting. It took me a

Director: Vikas Bahl
Stars: Ajay Devgn, Madhavan, Jyotika

Story: When a family lets a stranger into their farmhouse, the man mysteriously controls the teenage daughter. She does every bizarre and life-threatening thing he commands her to. What dark secret does the stranger possess, and can this desperate family escape his twisted game?
Review: A good supernatural thriller typically relies on elements of horror and suspense to keep the viewer hooked. Even if it skimps on jump scares but provides an unsettling experience, it’s a job well done. In that sense, director Vikas Bahl has got it right with Shaitaan. The movie introduces one to Kabir’s (Ajay Devgn) happy family, which includes his wife Jyoti (Jyotika), teenage daughter Jahnavi (Janki Bodiwala), and nerdy son Dhruv (Anngad Raaj). The film quickly builds a sense of unease, as a stranger, Vanraj Kashyap (R Madhavan), enters their lives. He mysteriously gains complete control of Jahnavi, so much so that she obeys every command he gives. Unease soon turns to dread as Vanraj’s orders become increasingly awful and dangerous to Jahnavi herself and her family members.

The rest of the story unravels the mystery behind what makes Vanraj powerful, his motive, and whether the family will escape his torment. Shaitaan’s appeal lies in the atmosphere it creates, especially without the use of CGI. It mostly hinges on the antagonist’s sinister intentions and games, which leave you with an unsettling feeling. Written by Aamir Keeyan Khan and Krishnadev Yagnik, the film sidesteps usual horror tropes. But it does touch upon the age-old supernatural versus science debate and human crudity that makes the species as basic as malevolent forces.

The narrative maintains a good pace and the treatment makes the movie gripping for the most part, although things get a tad monotonous in the second half. Albeit not too suspenseful, the buildup is unnerving. The story has some unconvincing elements, and one scene gives away a pivotal plot point, which makes the climax predictable. Cinematographer Sudhakar Reddy Yakkanti excels in creating an atmosphere of dread and darkness, further enhanced by Amit Trivedi’s music. Madhavan is outstanding as the malevolent figure and pulls off every sinister deed perfectly. Ajay Devgn delivers a powerful performance as a helpless but determined father. Jyotika stands her might, too.

Director: Shawn Levy
Stars: Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Emma Corrin

Shawn Levy is no novice when it comes to rumors about his projects. Years on “Stranger Things” taught him how to tune out the noise. Yet even he’s found himself astonished by the sheer volume of speculation around Deadpool & Wolverine.” “The rumors around this movie are overwhelming,” Levy said in a recent interview with The Associated Press. “But so is the anticipation, which is a nice situation.”
Anticipation might be an understatement for a movie that is poised to be the theatrical event of the summer, when it opens on July 26.The first trailer, which aired during the Super Bowl, was viewed a record 365 million times online in its first 24 hours. The second, which dropped this week, broke another record – for the most “F-bombs” in the MCU (six in less than three minutes). On a call with investors, as the deal was going through, Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger was already reassuring people that a Disney Deadpool would remain R-rated. Soon after, Reynolds also posted a photo on social media showing his character with Mickey Mouse ears on a yellow school bus labeled “Disney.” The meta humor, it seemed, was also firmly intact. But what would the story be? Levy was announced as the film’s director in early 2022, coming in as a fan of Reynolds’ snarky tone and fourth-wall-breaking. “There was no way I was going to reinvent a wheel, a tonal wheel, that works so beautifully,” Levy said. “Both Disney and Marvel, up and down the food chain, empowered Ryan and I to make this movie exactly as we dreamed.”

WAIT, HOW IS WOLVERINE HERE?

Things really started to take shape when Jackman signed on that fall, however. It would mark the first time that the characters would be together in a movie since 2009’s “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.” In the years since, Reynolds and Jackman have staged a very tongue-in-cheek, very funny “feud” with one another on social media, dancing around the idea of sharing the big screen again. The dream seemed to have died after “Logan” and Jackman’s retirement as Wolverine. But death is never exactly final in the multiverse, and, they promised, this film would not interfere with “Logan.”

“It’s a really interesting duo,” Levy said. “They’re built for huge conflict with each other because they’re so different individually. But that makes for a very interesting story, because the best two-hander stories, whether it’s ‘Midnight Run’ or ‘48 Hours’ or ‘Planes, Trains, and Automobiles,’ yes, it’s littered with conflict. But it’s ultimately about something more as well and that’s what audiences will see.”

IT’S SUMMER. NO HOMEWORK REQUIRED.

The Marvel multiverse has gotten a bit overwhelming in recent years for the more casual fans who may have seen most of the films but only dabbled in the Disney+ offerings that regularly introduce new concepts and characters that eventually find their way into the films. “Deadpool & Wolverine,” for instance, uses the Time Variance Authority (TVA) — a major part of “Loki” but new to the movies — to help get Deadpool to the MCU. But Levy promises that enjoyment of “Deadpool & Wolverine” requires no bingeing or studying beforehand.

“I was a good student in school. I’ll do my homework as an adult. But I am definitely not looking to do homework when I go to the movies,” Levy said.
“I very much made this film with certainly a healthy respect and gratitude towards the rabid fan base that has peak fluency in the mythology and lore of these characters and this world. But I didn’t want to presume that. This movie is built for entertainment, with no obligation to come prepared with prior research.”
